Idea: Tinkerbell Wings?

My new crafty itch is because my daughter is in love with Tinkerbell.

There's this new movie that came out, "The Secret of the Wings" and she just loves it.
She loves that Tinkerbell has a sister, and that their wings are magic together, she loves it all.

So here it is:
(and a great shot of Tinkerbell's wings)

I just really really want to find a way to make my daughter some wings of her own!
She was Tinkerbell for Halloween back when she was a baby:

But I just made her wings out of some pantyhose and wire, and they're not exactly a replica of Tinkerbell's wings... and my daughter is a stickler for the details.
(Oh the charms of having a perfectionist princess for a daughter)

:o)

SO
I was looking online the other day, and I saw these wings someone made on Etsy or somewhere:

And I thought, with some adjustments and a new design, I could probably make those myself, right? It can't be that hard. It just looks like some twisting.
And cutting. And ... ironing? Heating? Hmm time to read some more articles.
I just need the right materials... right?

So I've been doing some research and all I need is this fantasy film stuff and probably some wire.
Ideally, I wish I could do it with cut aluminum but I just don't know if I have the right tools to be cutting big sheets of aluminum.

(Somewhere in an alternate universe, I am currently hunched over my work bench with a wicked mask, a sheet of aluminum, some clamps and a laser in my hand...)

I'll let you know if I end up figuring this out.

Maybe I'll make me some wings too (but bigger) so that we can play together.

Chore Chart

I wanted to make a chore chart for my kids but nothing was working.
Finally, I came up with this one - drew the little pictures, refurbished a cookie sheet that was headed to the trash, and the kids love it.

They move a button to the check mark if they complete the task for the day, and then if they complete 5 things they get a sticker on their card.
Once they get a full card of stickers (9) then they can redeem it for things that are fun.
(See the purple area, and the bottom row on the chore chart, and the few things up by the title)
They can also earn extra points by putting extra buttons on the 'optional' things in the middle row.
My son is a pro at cleaning the toilet.

Cardboard Forts

Because WHY NOT!
I made this cardboard house (with secret entrance on the side) from the boxes from our move to our new place. It was up for my daughter's birthday party, and the kids had a blast playing in it.
Her birthday was a costume party, which was so much fun.

We love making forts out of cardboard.

Clay Princes and Princesses

My daughter wanted all of the princesses dancing with their princes on her birthday cake one year, and I looked everywhere for some figurines - but after I couldn't find any, I ended up just making some myself, out of polymer clay.

I set them up so they would be 'dancing' while they were together:

But they could be standing alone too:
(Cinderella, Rapunzel, Ariel, Snow White, Aurora, and Belle)

From this project I realized I didn't know all of the prince's names!
Charming (but what is his first name?), Flynn Rider aka Eugene, Eric, "Prince" (in the stories his name is Prince Valient, but they never mention his actual name. This is sad to me... why do the men have to be shallow in their stories? Ok, putting away my soap box...), Phillip, and Adam (the Beast).

Funny Lunch Notes

Sometimes I like to make funny notes to go in my son's lunch - sometimes it's just a plain sticky note, but sometimes it's something like this:

He had to peel off the sandwich layers to read the message.

Cake Stand

I made this cake stand a while back because I didn't have one at the time, and I wanted to see if I could make a good one!

Pom Pom Critters

I've been making pom pom critters for the class my husband and I teach on Sunday.

Here are some snowmen I made:

And some more critters:

I made my daughter a poofy spider to wear in her hair on Halloween - and now, she loves wearing it to school because she loves to scare the boys. :o)

A bear:

Miniature Baby Figurine

I made this using my brand new mold from Sugar Delites.
I really, really love their site.

When it arrived in the mail, I wanted to make something right away but I didn't have anything except clay handy. So I made this, and painted it a little.

I can't wait to use it with my cakes.

A Handy Dandy Notebook (From Blue's Clues)

I painted this for my son.

Mailbox (from Blues Clues)

My kids love getting their mail in Mailbox.
I made this when my son was little - so I made it blue, just for him.

Years later, my daughter is playing with it often.
She pointed out to me that Mailbox is purple, and I should fix it.
Maybe I will make her a Mailbox of her very own.

Iron Man Pizza

I made this pizza for my son's birthday.

Funny Lunches

Here's an example: lunch on Thanksgiving for my kids:

Cake Balls

I'll admit, I'm kindof horrible at cake balls. I don't get them.
And for me, I personally don't like their texture.

Alas I still make them.
:o)

These are cupcake toppers I made using cocktail forks:

(They were red velvet)

This is the first batch of cake balls I ever made:

Miniature Cakes (Rice Krispies)

I made these for a few friends one year.
They're made out of round rice krispies squares.

Cupcakes

This cupcake in particular was part of quite a few that I made for our wedding reception:

Meringue Mushroom 1up Candies

When I was a little girl, my mom would sometimes make meringue mushrooms.
She would powder them with cocoa and we would love how real they looked.
I was a tom boy, so I loved grossing my friends out with my mushroom obsession.
I'd always show them if they came over after school and we had a container of them around.

Even today, my friends sometimes think they're real mushrooms.
We had some missionaries over once (bless their hearts) who ate one initially thinking it was a real, candied mushroom. I'm glad he was surprised that it wasn't. That would be gross!

So now, my son was obsessed with Mario and I had been thinking at the time about what I could do for my husband & my wedding reception.
My husband and I had a second chance - so I wanted to stick with the theme.
I came up with 1up Meringue mushroom candies.

My kids loved these.
I make these sometimes now, and even the red ones!
They're always a big hit.

The Tooth Fairy's Door

When my son started getting old enough that he was going to start losing teeth, I realized I hadn't really thought of the tooth fairy yet!
I didn't want him to be stuffing his teeth under his pillow (ew) so I made this out of a dollhouse door.

At first, the tooth fairy's door started out by itself.
No matter where it's been, it's been hung high up.
Then the tooth fairy's door was expanded to include a patio, and some accessories.
Here is her patio in the summertime:

And at Christmas:
(I made the wreath and the tree)

I put in a clothesline too, it made it feel more like she 'moved in' I think.
I also made all the little dresses on the line.
This one is our favorite:

Quilts and Blankets

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I had this sudden urge to quilt.
I don't really know how to quilt, but I can sew fabric together that ends up being useful keeping people warm, I guess.
:o)

A blanket for a friend:

A blanket for my daughter:
(The picture of Thumbelina - from the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale collection book - is hand-painted using fabric paint.)

A quilt for my daughter, using my old maternity clothes:

A quilt for my son (he was in love with Spongebob at the time) - I actually made this quilt for my daughter to gift to him when she was born, so the new baby was giving him something special.
It was cute because when I told him it was from the baby, he put the blanket on top of her!

A "happy quilt" for my daughter.

A 'happy quilt' - I love the story for this blanket.
I had a friend from church ask me if I wanted to get together for lunch one day - so she could get to know me better. I was going through a hard time in my life, and I hadn't really been outside my house enough to make a lot of friends in the area, so I was excited to make a new friend.
During lunch, we talked and talked and realized we had a lot of similar interests!
It was the best time ever.
Right after lunch, we went straight over to JoAnn fabrics together and picked out a load of happy fabrics together, and got enough fabric for each of us to make our own "happy blankets" - so they would match - because this was a way to brighten my days.
At the time, it was exactly what I needed.
I put together my quilt as soon as I could, and now even to this day no matter what, if I look at it, it makes me smile.

I made this quilt for my first ever niece.

I made this quilt for my daughter, before she was born, because I knew she would be a teeny baby on Halloween, and we would probably be going out!

I made this scrap quilt for my daughter, as a tummy time blanket for her when she was a baby.

Party Decorations

I made this #4 for my daughter's birthday using foam core board, coffee filters, hot glue, and spray paint.

I made some "lollipops" to hang from the ceiling as decorations for my daughter's birthday.

Painting and Art

I think out of all my hobbies, I'm most insecure about my drawings and paintings.
But sometimes I make them anyways.

This is a canvas I painted - and loved... oh it was so pretty.
But then I ended up ruining it :o( I tried to turn it into a nightlight, and it just didn't end up well.
So here is what it looked like when it was pretty.
Like a cotton candy sunset.

I made this out of paint, canvas, and squares of paint samples from Home Depot.
We really do love video games.

This is a painting I made, I tried to make it look like Elizabeth Taylor but it ended up looking like a hybrid of something else.

I made this painting to fill a blank wall one day.
It hung there for a while, but then I decided that black and red were too angry for me, so I actually ended up priming over it and painting a Peter Pan-esque scene over it.

I made this painting for two of my friends who got married.
We were all friends in high school, and I remember when they had crushes on each other, then dated for a while, and so on... they have a  long story! And an amazing one.
Made for each other.

This is a painting of Betty, an incredible woman I had the opportunity to serve when I was pregnant with my daughter. She had so much strength, and fire! Her cousin mentioned wanting a recent picture that was nice, and I asked if I could paint something for her from the picture.
Betty will be sorely missed.

A stargazer lily painting:

A painting for me to hang in my daughter's room - it's from the book I have that is filled with Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales. This is from "The Red Shoes"...

I painted this canvas mostly brown and hand-painted a lace pattern all over.
Then I flipped it over, and stapled in a string of white LED Christmas lights.
Now it's a nightlight!

I painted this tree mural on the wall:

I painted this for a friend:
