I love to make cake.
I made my "first cake" in 2006, and since then I have been trying to scratch the insatiable itch that it gives me.
I love how many things you can make into cake form, and I love the challenge of figuring it out.
There is always something new that I can be learning about how to improve myself - whether it's how to make better candy glass, or how to improve the structure of my cakes.
I have made over 100 cakes, but here are just some of my favorites.
Sushi Cupcakes:
My husband and I play World of Warcraft together, and for his first birthday with us, I made him a Murloc cake:
A first birthday cake for my friend's daughter - it was their first daughter after having two sons, so it had to be really girly. :o)
A flowery wedding cake:
Another birthday cake for my husband: a Dalek.
(That's from Doctor Who)
(And if you don't know what Doctor Who is, it's time for you to hop on Netflix and catch up.)
We love Doctor Who.
A baby shower cake:
This was actually quite a challenge because it was a black forest cake!
A birthday cake for a friend's husband, who loved his xbox:
For our Relief Society birthday party:
For a friend, she was bringing it to her son at work for his birthday.
(He's a phlebotomist.)
One of the first cakes I ever made, this one was fun. It was for someone who worked with someone I knew, and they were Russian, and every time they all would hang out or go somewhere, he would have vodka and chicken wings, so that's what they wanted to give him in cake.
A wedding reception cake:

The whole cake:
A birthday cake:
(Very rare is it that I get to just make "classic" cakes like this.)
Penguins I made for cupcake toppers:
Autumn cupcakes for a friend gathering:
This was a birthday cake I made:
Another birthday cake:
This cake was ordered for the taste factor, but my husband and I had a giggle because it's just like the cake from Portal.
"The cake is a lie!!!" D: |
These cupcakes were made to go with a wedding cake I made. I made every butterfly wing using sharpie markers and plastic bottles, and hot glue. Making fifty mini cakes was the most time-consuming thing I have ever done involving cake. I was really lucky my mother was here at that time, so she helped me get the job done!
The cake that the cupcakes went with:
One of my favorite cakes - I call this the "bling cake"... I just loved all the sparkle.
My only regret is not requesting the trim around the cake back - it was probably thrown out, but the trim alone cost $50.
A wedding cake I made for a couple who had their own monogram stamp they used on everything (on the top of the cake) because they both had names that started with J.
A baby shower cake for my friend:
This is MY wedding cake.
YES, I made my own wedding cake... I couldn't just hand it over to someone.
I know, I'm a perfectionist. I'm ok with that.
This is the only kind of cake I've had repeat orders of! It's Wrigley Field.
(Random fact: My daughter's middle name is because of one of the roads that Wrigley is located!)
A girly birthday cake for my friend's daughter - who is not only adorable, but hilariously complained when looking at cakes for ideas for her cake: "There are no cakes with butterflies AND flowers." Easy to please!
This is "The Christmas Cake" which I usually make every year at Christmas time.
It consists of layers of chocolate cake, chocolate truffle loaf, and more chocolate cake. Then covered in chocolate frosting and topped with chocolate ganache.
A wedding cake for a hilarious - awesome - couple:
One of the first cakes I made:
An anniversary cake:
A wedding cake that I made to look like a picture of a cake topper online (that they bought the 'double happiness' symbol from) - this was a fun project!
A close up of the topper:
A birthday cake for one of my awesome friends:
My daughter's first birthday cake:
A wedding cake for a great couple - rivalries in baseball!
